GeLi Gas: Wie der Gaslieferantenwechsel funktioniert

Was ist GeLi Gas?

The rulebook for switching gas suppliers

GeLi Gas stands for Geschäftsprozesse Lieferantenwechsel Gas. It is the official BNetzA rulebook for gas supplier switching. Version 2.0 is currently in use; version 3.0 is in development for future harmonisation with electricity processes.

CONTRL, Not APERAK

The most important difference from GPKE: gas uses CONTRL (action codes 7 and 8) for acknowledgements. Electricity uses APERAK (A7/A8). Same purpose, different message type.

5 Days for NB Response

The NB has 5 working days to respond to a gas registration — one day more than electricity. Gas supply chains have additional physical verification steps.

m³ to kWh Conversion

Gas meters read cubic metres (m³). Billing requires kWh. The conversion factor (Brennwert / calorific value) varies by region and can change monthly. MSBs must include it in MSCONS.

Separate Meter Point IDs

Gas meter points have their own ID system distinct from electricity MaLo IDs. Mistakenly sending an electricity MaLo on a gas message will cause immediate rejection.

Version 3.0 Coming

GeLi Gas 3.0 is under development by BDEW to harmonise gas and electricity processes. When it comes, some timing rules and process indicators will change.

Same BNetzA Oversight

The Bundesnetzagentur mandates GeLi Gas just like GPKE. Non-compliance means fines. All gas suppliers and NBs in Germany must follow the same rules.

GPKE vs GeLi Gas at a glance

Electricity: APERAK A7 (OK) / A8 (error). Gas: CONTRL action_code=7 (OK) / action_code=8 (error). Both acknowledge receipt and syntax correctness. Both are mandatory and must be sent within 24 hours.
